This project was inspired by a true story, which means that as a passionate project I feel responsible to everyone involved in this film to ensure that we shoot this delicately and sophistically.

1 in 3 incarcerated persons happen to be black and as a black woman, those odds terrify me. We use prisons as a punishment method for persons who have broken laws but we don’t often think about the domino effect that takes place when we do this. Parents are affected when people go to jail. Spouses are affected when people go to jail. Children are affected when people go to jail. They often grow up in the system or in the streets. People know the numbers and yet, no one talks about it. No one cares.

How much more should a person have to lose when they’ve already lost so much?

Film serves a wonderful tool to educate people on topics that they are not aware of. While the credits are rolling, I want viewers to sit back in their seats, stunned, and ponder to themselves, “Damn, I never thought about that. That kinda sucks” and inspire somebody to do something about it. If people are made more aware of the shitty situations that people go through in this country, maybe it can inspire one person to make a change in someone’s life.

Lonely, sad children become angry adults and unfortunately, a lot of children grow up without parents due to losing them to a vindictive system that doesn’t just punish the person who committed the crime, but hurts everyone surrounding them as well. Hopefully, this film can implement a step of awareness and change in the right direction.
